Cubic Waste:
Naming & Brand Development for an Oklahoma Startup

The Challenge

In 2022, the founders of a brand-new roll-off dumpster rental service came to me with the earliest possible starting point: they had a business, but not yet a name. They needed someone to help them name the company, build a logo, and create a complete visual identity that could compete from day one in a crowded, established market.

I started at the foundation — naming — and built up from there, giving a startup with no brand recognition a professional identity that looked like it had been around for years.

What I Delivered

Working directly with the founders from the very first idea, I built the brand from scratch:
  • Business naming and naming strategy
  • Logo design and brand identity
  • Visual identity system and brand application
  • Website design
  • Brand rollout across signage, apparel, and equipment

It Started With a Name

Naming is one of the hardest and most important parts of launching a business — the name has to be memorable, available, and built to grow. I worked with the founders to land on “Cubic Waste,” a name that’s short, confident, and well-suited to the industry, and then designed a logo and identity system around it. The mark was built to work everywhere a waste-services brand lives: on a truck door, embroidered on a uniform, and printed large across a roll-off container.

A Brand Built to Compete

A strong startup brand has to punch above its age. I developed a complete visual identity — logo, color, and application standards — designed to make a first-year company look like an established, trustworthy operator. From branded containers rolling through neighborhoods to embroidered team apparel, every touchpoint reinforced the same professional, cohesive identity, helping the business build recognition fast and start competing for market share right away.

A Logo System Built to Flex

The best logos aren’t a single fixed image—they’re a system. Like the identities behind many of today’s largest companies, I built the Cubic Waste mark as a flexible, adaptive logo system rather than one static file. That means a horizontal lockup for wide spaces such as a truck door or a website header, a stacked version for square or vertical arrangements, and the individual icon – the hexagonal ‘C’ – in cases where the full name won’t fit, such as on a social profile or an embroidered cap.

I also engineered the identity to hold up in every color situation it would face in the real world: full-color for branded containers, solid black and reversed white for single-color printing and dark backgrounds, and defined spot-color versions with locked Pantone and process values so the brand stays exactly on-color whether it’s printed on a shirt, a decal, or a dumpster. Clients receive all logo versions along with the comprehensive reference sheet, making it easy for them and their vendors—like sign shops and apparel printers—to use the brand correctly and consistently.

The difference between what separates a logo from a brand system: one file looks good in one place, while a system looks right everywhere. For a company whose logo would end up on trucks, containers, uniforms, and screens across the Oklahoma City metro, that adaptability is what let Cubic Waste look established and cohesive from day one.

Results

The brand launched quickly, and the business took off with it — Cubic Waste established a professional presence in a competitive market and has grown significantly since. Helping a startup go from “no name yet” to a recognized local brand is exactly the kind of work I love most.
